During Lent the Christian faithful are to do penance through prayer, fasting, abstinence and by exercising works of piety and charity. All Fridays through the year, and especially during Lent, are penitential days.

Sundays in Lent are not considered part of the Lenten observance because each Sunday we continue to celebrate Jesus' resurrection. Each Sunday is like a mini-Easter.

Abstinence

All who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays during Lent.

Fasting

All those who are 18 and older, until their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is allowed on days of fast. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one's needs. But together, they should not equal a full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.

The obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected. People in doubt about fast or abstinence should consult a parish priest.

Married on July 3, 2004 and living the simple life raising the kids, having adventures, offering music at Parishes and taking no more than one day at a time with trusting hearts to pull it off.  Actually, we know we are not pulling it off but we are grateful to our community, our families and our God for allowing (or helping us) to pull it off so far!

Mr. Steve:After spending 10 years in an event marketing career traveling around the USA representing the Coca-Cola Company. Mr. Steve entered into the Music & Youth Ministry of the diocese in 2000. He is currently the Choir director of St. Matthias Children's Choir, Holy Child Jesus Children's Choir and Nativity BVM Contemporary Ensemble. He teaches music at St. Matthias, Holy Child Jesus and St. Michael's (Flushing) Schools while being the Youth Minister at Holy Child Jesus Parish.

Miss Jennifer: Was a band teacher servicing mostly Catholic and Private Schools offering band lessons and creating bands (for concerts) in schools that would otherwise have no music programs. After 12 years in that career, Miss Jenn has made the ultimate sacrifice (because she really loved her work) by staying home and working the greatest (& hardest) job, mother of 3 children, while staying active in the music ministry. Mr. Steve & Miss Jenn work with 4 additional couples offering a PreCana program for engaged couples in a 3 week program.
